Well, after further development, WebCipher 2009 Alpha 2 is now available for download. This version of WebCipher 2009 must be downloaded and installed, as opposed to using WebCipher Update, as a critical update component wasn’t included in WebCipher 2009 Alpha 1 (my mistake!). After installing Alpha 2, the update process will be able to complete, and subsequent versions will be able to be updated using the update program.
If you have any feedback, feel free to post it in the WebCipher Forums. A full changelog for this version is included below.
- FIXED: Syntax Highlighting tab whitespace adjusted
- FIXED: File browser icons would previously overlap when they extended past one column
- FIXED: Selected options no longer require an application restart to apply
- UPDATED: Replaced editor tab control with one which includes an integrated close button to increase area available to editor
- ADDED: Middle-clicking on a tab closes that tab
- FIXED: Tooltips on buttons in Snippets panel
- FIXED: Connection Details dialog port now defaults to 21 and not 0
- FIXED: Attempts to perform actions on an FTP server without an established FTP connection will cause WebCipher to attempt to re-establish the last successful connection
- ADDED: ‘Views’ menu in the FTP context menu now has an icon
- FIXED: Tooltip for ‘up one level’ button in the Files panel
- ADDED: Untitled Uploading, which allows you to upload the active document to the active server directory, regardless of whether or not it has been saved
- ADDED: More templates (only available when downloading the WebCipher installer and re-installing WebCipher)
- ADDED: ‘Up one level’ button for the FTP panel

Well, it’s been one heck of a development rollercoaster!
After discovering that I completely ruined the source code for WebCipher 2008, I set out on a big mission - to re-develop WebCipher from the ground up to create WebCipher 2009. After a lot of sweat and tears, I am proud to announce that WebCipher 2009 Alpha 1 will be available this Thursday. The timing hasn’t been set yet, but it will be available sometime during Thursday 5th February 2009.
If you’ve been following the development of WebCipher and/or use WebCipher in any way (even if you are just trying it out), please leave a comment here - it would be greatly appreciated!
I hope you enjoy using WebCipher 2009! Don’t worry, I’ve made a solid backup of the WebCipher development files this time around so that if anything goes wrong, it won’t be a massive dilemma!
That’s the forum post I just made over at the WebCipher Forums regarding a very exciting release - WebCipher 2009 Alpha 1! That’s right, the release will occur on 5 February 2009, with a brand-new version of WebCipher that has been built from scratch!
After trying it out, I would appreciate any and all comments regarding your experience with it - whether it was absolutely amazing, or terrible, feel free to either post a comment here, or reply to the forum post.
A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to WebCipher’s development thus far!

As you may have noticed, the WebCipher Website’s main navigation looks a bit different. This is because it, along with the rest of the page, has been extended to about 800px, to incorporate a link to this very blog, and also a link to the ‘Extend’ part of the website - more to come on that later.
If you have any suggestions for WebCipher, or have found any bugs, please post them in the WebCipher Bug Tracker. By doing so, it really helps development a lot, as I can easily pin-point problems and potential new features much easier.
Thanks to everyone who has been supporting WebCipher - whether you’re doing that by reviewing it (thanks, Sandip! :D) or by simply using the program itself, it is all greatly appreciated.

The WebCipher blog is now online! Be sure to check back here for the latest information on WebCipher and future releases. If you want to be on the cutting-edge regarding information on WebCipher, be sure to subscribe to the RSS feed at the bottom of this page.
Keep your eyes peeled for the release of WebCipher 2008 final - my goal is to release it before the end of the year (otherwise a name change will be in order :p).
